Winter Pond provides habitat for a wide variety of resident and migrating birds. The shallow water and muddy bottom are particularly suitable for waterfowl and herons. Since 2010, a total of 143 bird species have been seen on or around the pond. In Spring and Fall, the pond is an excellent place to see flocks of migrating ducks such as Hooded Mergansers, Ring-necked Ducks, and Bufflehead.

Winter pond is also home to fish, turtles, frogs, muskrats, and the occasional beaver. Coyotes, foxes, and raccoons are sometimes spotted in the areas around the pond.
